Kenya is 98% ready to host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), according to Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman Nicholas Musonye, who says the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is satisfied with the country’s preparedness ahead of the August tournament.
Speaking with just weeks to go before kickoff, Musonye expressed confidence in Kenya’s upgraded sporting infrastructure, particularly the renovated Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums, which had initially lagged behind schedule.
“Even Kenyans had doubts about our ability to host this event, but now, based on CAF’s assessment, our facilities can meet any international standard,” said Musonye. “I’ve been across Africa, and I can confidently say many countries don’t have what we have here.”
The 2024 CHAN, originally set for February, was rescheduled to August 2–30 due to earlier concerns about the host nations’ readiness. The tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, marking the first time East African nations jointly stage a major CAF competition.
While acknowledging that a few finishing touches remain, Musonye emphasized that such minor issues are common in global tournaments. “No stadium is ever 100% complete for a tournament of this scale. There will always be small issues, but overall, we are good to go.”
CAF’s positive feedback follows multiple inspection visits to Nairobi and other venues, signaling a green light for the historic regional football showcase.
With less than a month to go, Kenya is finalizing logistics, security, and accommodation plans to welcome participating teams and fans from across the continent.
