CAF Fines Kenya and Tanzania for Breaches During CHAN MatchesFKF and TFF penalized for safety and security violations

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has issued financial penalties against the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) for breaching CAF regulations during their matches in the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN).

In a decision announced on Wednesday, CAF found FKF guilty of violating Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, along with Articles 15, 31, and 32 of the CAF Safety and Security Regulations during the match between Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The disciplinary body imposed the following sanctions on FKF:

  • A USD 5,000 fine for a stampede and unauthorized access to the stadium.
  • A USD 10,000 fine for the assault on CAF personnel and guests.
  • An official warning for the ignition of fire inside the stadium.

Tanzania’s football governing body, TFF, was also found guilty of violating CAF’s Safety and Security obligations as outlined in Articles 82 and 83 of the Disciplinary Code and Articles 24 and 28 of the Safety & Security Regulations. This followed incidents during the match between Tanzania and Burkina Faso, where fans were reported to have misbehaved and breached safety protocols.

As a result, the CAF Disciplinary Board imposed a USD 10,000 fine on the Tanzania Football Federation.

CAF has ordered that all fines be paid within 60 days from the date of notification.

The sanctions underscore CAF’s firm stance on ensuring safety, security, and orderly conduct during continental football competitions.
