Cameroon’s long-standing President Paul Biya, aged 91, made a highly anticipated return to Yaoundé’s international airport on Monday after several weeks abroad, amid swirling rumors concerning his health.
The state broadcaster CRTV captured the moment, showcasing Biya greeting officials alongside his wife, Chantal, as a robust crowd awaited their leader’s arrival.
Biya’s absence began following his departure from the China-Africa cooperation summit in Beijing at the start of September.

The public’s concern over his health intensified during his extended stay in Geneva, leading to speculation and questions about his wellbeing.
CRTV took to the airwaves to declare, “Today the president is on his way, which will put an end to all the speculation.”
Supporters lined the streets, reveling in the president’s return, with billboards reading “Welcome home, Mr. President of the Republic”.
Biya, who has governed Cameroon for over 40 years, has faced mounting scrutiny, particularly following statements from the government that banned media discussions surrounding his health condition.
His absence from significant global events — including the United Nations General Assembly and a key summit for French-speaking nations — further fueled discussions about his leadership.
However, with his return, the government aims to quash rumors and reassure citizens of the president’s capability to lead.
