A Liberian National has been charged with stealing 6.5 Kg of gold bars worth tens of millions.
Carace Ownze Toomey was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi at Milimani law courts where he was charged with stealing gold bars.
According to the charge sheet, Carace on diverse dates between March 30 and April 4, 2023, stole 6.483 Kilograms of gold bars valued at USD 408,229 an equivalent of Ksh 54,294,457.
He was also charged with stealing goods in transit where he on April 4, 2023, at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, stole 6.483 Kg of gold bars which were in transit from Liberia to Dubai.
He however denied particulars of the charges where he pleaded with the court to release him on reasonable bond terms saying that he has been staying in Kenya for eight years and that he was not a flight risk.
The court ordered him to be detained at Kilimani Police Station until Monday 17, 2023 when the Court will issue a determination on his bond application.
