Cardi B is 2020’s woman of the year – Billboard

On Thursday night the bill board’s annual women in music assembled some of the music industry‘s 2020 power houses for a celebration hosted by Teyana Taylor

“tonight’s honors helped us look through the darkness and find the light .their music inspired our zoom dance parties, they used their platforms to fight a global pandemic to fight for equality and encourage voters to make their voices heard, while the world was in lockdown, these women were standing up doing what women do best getting to work and getting the money.”

The live stream show included performances by Chloe x Halle, Dua Lipa and Dolly Patron, who were honored throughout the night. A-list presenters including Lily Singh, Miley Cyrus, Maluma and Senator Bernie Sanders.

But the main focus of the night was Cardi B who was honored for being the Bill board woman of the year not only for her music but also for her political activism during the 2020 election .The top honor was presented to the rapper by Tamika Palmer mother to late Breonna Taylor

“One of Breonna’s most outspoken advocates over the past nine months has been Cardi B, from the begging Cardi used her platform to spread the truth about what happened to Breonna and to re affirm that Black Women Lives matter.”  Said Tamika Palmer

Breonna was murdered early this year by Kentucky police officers and this prompted women like Cardi and Megan Thee Stallion to speak about violence against Black women

“Cardi’s impact reaches far beyond music that is why am so proud and honored to present Billboard’s woman award of the year to Miss Cardi B

Cardi addressed how COVID-19 has ruined her creative process “this year, when I came into music I had so many things planned I had so many projects that I wanted to come out unfortunately COVID came up and I couldn’t put out the visuals how I wanted, it has messed up my creative space and you know what everyone this year was messed up.”

“so am grateful and thankful that the song that I actually did put out this year (WAP) was not only an amazing song that broke so many records but it was a conversation that I never thought was going to be so big, it pissed off so many republicans for no reason you know what am saying it was just weird.

You actually got to put in the work, be ambitious, you have to network become great at what you do, be able to take criticism there is hope for your dreams.” said Cardi B when she received her award
