Cash stipend for journalists in Covid 19 duty launched

The Media Council of Kenya(MCK) will pay cash to journalists covering the COVID 19 pandemic.- By Prudence Wanza

The cash will be paid to accredited journalists by the Media regulator, with preference given to those operating in hardship areas.

Media Council of Kenya Chairman(MCK) announced the initiative yesterday and urged journalists to apply.

“Journalists are in the frontline of fighting this epidemic and we will support them fully”, Muiruri said in a press statement.

He thanked the media for reporting on the pandemic objectively and said the council will ensure they get assistance while on the line of duty.

Journalists and press teams have been receiving support from the ministry through this pandemic. They were listed as essential service providers in the list of people exempted from the 10 Hour curfew.

This has allowed for the media to cover the plight of Kenyans, and the status of the pandemic without interference from security apparatus.
