Catherine Wambugu nearly collapses after viewing body of employee who died in grisly accident

Agripreneur Catherine Wambugu lost her composure and nearly collapsed to the ground on Monday, January 26, 2026, after viewing the body of her driver, Dominic, who died following a grisly road accident along the Nyeri–Nyahururu Highway on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

In a livestream shared on Facebook on the same day, Catherine is seen being held by the shoulders by two men as she wailed loudly after approaching the casket, which had its upper section open to allow mourners to view the body.

Even before getting close to the coffin, Catherine began letting out frantic sobs, prompting people near her to rush in and hold her for support before she could collapse.

After viewing the body, Catherine instantly became weak and unsteady, eventually wobbling to the ground as the men struggled to lift her up, while other women standing nearby moved in to comfort her and reassure her that everything would be well.

The emotional scene unfolded as tensions ran high at the mortuary, where other family members were also seen weeping as they slowly lined up to view the body of Dominic, who died tragically following the nasty accident.

Catherine’s hospitalisation

Catherine, the CEO of Wambugu Apples, was also involved in the tragic accident that claimed the lives of her two employees, but luckily she survived.

In the aftermath of the accident, she was hospitalised for several days before being successfully discharged on Friday, January 23, 2026.

While giving an update on her hospitalisation later that day, Catherine shared that she was steadily recovering physically and was beginning to regain her strength.

“Hello everyone, my name is Catherine Wambugu, speaking on behalf of Wambugu Apples, and while speaking, I am aware that I am not only addressing Kenyans but also our clients all over. I am well and back home, feeling a bit stronger,” she said.

However, she lamented that she remained deeply saddened by the tragic loss of her colleagues Dominic and Terry, who were integral to her business operations, and by the death of a lorry driver involved in the crash.

“But my heart is very heavy for my colleagues who were working with Wambugu Apples and for the driver who lost his life during the incident,” she lamented.

She elaborated that Dominic served as her driver, delivering goods across the country and maintaining connections with numerous clients, while Terry frequently acted on her behalf, liaising with clients and representing Wambugu Apples in various capacities.

Catherine emphasised that both employees had been vital to the day-to-day operations of her business, and their sudden deaths have left an irreplaceable void.

“Even small support will go a long way, as they both had families, and this was such a sudden loss. Terry often spoke on my behalf with clients all over and handled calls for me, while Dominic was my driver and also delivered to many of our customers. The Bible says to join those who are mourning, and I invite everyone to stand with these families in this difficult time,” she stated.
