Catholic Diocese Of Kitui To Mark Annual Pilgrimage To Our Lady Of Protection Shrine Museve on 31st January

Thousands of Kitui Catholic faithfuls are expected to gather at Museve Shrine on 31st January 2026 for the annual Diocesan pilgrimage.

According to a statement signed by Kitui Bishop Joseph Mwongela, the mass will be celebrated by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya Archbishop Hubertus Matheus Maria van Megen.

Bishop Mwongela requested all the Parishes, Church Groups and Individuals to come with a contribution for the Shrine.

“Through these contributions we have been able to do the following: finishes at the Amphitheatre, Installation of CCTV cameras, some finishes of The Way of the Cross, repair and maintenance of the Shrine,” Bishop Mwongela said.

The faithfuls are expected to participate in the way of the Cross, adoration, sacrament of reconciliation and Holy Mass.

This comes after the Holy Father appointed Bishop Joseph Mwongela, as the Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Machakos, a move that signals continuity and renewed pastoral energy for the diocese.

Born on 7 April 1968 in Kakumi, Diocese of Kitui, Bishop Mwongela has shepherded the faithful of Kitui with dedication, pastoral sensitivity, and a strong commitment to evangelization.

He was ordained Bishop at the grounds of St. Charles Lwanga School, Kitui, within his home diocese.

With this appointment, he is set to take over from Bishop Norman King’oo Wambua, the third Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Machakos, who follows in the historical line of leadership after the late Bishop Urbanus Joseph Kioko and Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde, who was later transferred from Machakos to serve as Archbishop of Mombasa.

In recent years, the Diocese of Machakos had also been under the pastoral care of Archbishop Anthony Muheria of the Archdiocese of Nyeri, who served faithfully as Apostolic Administrator for three years, ensuring stability and guidance during a transitional period.

The appointment of Bishop Mwongela now marks a new chapter of hope, continuity, and pastoral momentum for the Diocese of Machakos, as the faithful look forward to his leadership and service in building up the Church.
