The Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Dr. Kamau Thugge, was turned away by a parliamentary committee on Thursday, June 5, after failing to present the necessary supporting documents for his submissions.
Dr. Thugge had appeared before the National Assembly’s Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity, which is chaired by Mandera West MP Aden Yussuf Haji. The Governor had been summoned to respond to questions concerning ethnic diversity and equal employment opportunities within the CBK.
However, the committee rejected his presentation, citing a lack of documentary evidence to support the claims made during the session.
“After carefully reviewing your presentation, the Committee has established that your report lacks the required supporting documents,” said Chairperson Aden Haji. “The invitation letter clearly stated that all submissions must be accompanied by documentary evidence. Unfortunately, this requirement has not been met.”
In addition to the missing annexes, the committee noted that the documents submitted by the CBK Governor had not been signed an oversight that further contributed to their decision to reject the report.
Dr. Thugge acknowledged the shortcomings and assured the committee that the necessary documentation would be submitted during his next appearance. “We regret the oversight and will ensure that all procedural requirements are fully met moving forward,” he said.
During the same session, the Committee also sent away Paul Ngugi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Geothermal Development Company (GDC), for similar reasons. Ngugi’s presentation was also deemed inadequate due to poor preparation and the absence of required documentation.
The Committee emphasized the importance of compliance and thorough preparation by public officials, especially when appearing before parliamentary bodies on matters of national importance.
