Today is exactly 7 years since his Grace Archbishop Boniface Lele, Emeritus Archbishop of Mombasa and Former 2nd Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Kitui passed on on 9th April 2014.
Boniface Lele was born on 14th April 1947 and Ordained to the priesthood on 8th December 1974.
As a priest of Kitui, he worked in Mutito, Kabati, Cathedral and Mutune parishes and also served as the Education Secretary, Vocations Director and Pastoral Coordinator in the Diocese of Kitui.
He went to Post graduate studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, for Spiritual Theology from 1979-1981.
He also served as the Vicar general for the Diocese of Kitui from May 1985 – November 1995.

On 16th November, 1995, he was appointed Bishop of Kitui Diocese and was ordained Bishop of Kitui on 2nd February, 1996 succeeding Bishop William Dunne to be the 2nd Bishop of Kitui.
The late archbishop is fondly remembered for his humility and simplicity. This was witnessed during the time he served as the Bishop of Kitui Diocese.
Together with the late Fr. D’Agostino, he was behind the establishment of Nyumbani Village-Kitui which currently hosts over 1000 total orphans.
