Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party have spoken out against Azimio La Umoja member parties’ proposal to zone some areas including the Machakos gubernatorial seat in the upcomingAugust 9 general elections.

In a statement issued on Monday May 9, CCU party through its Secretary General Philippe Sadjah stated that CCU party was a constituent party of the Azimio la Umoja Coalition and not a scion of Wiper.

Sadjah also stated that Machakos County was a cosmopolitan metropolitan like Nairobi and Mombasa and therefore being a national Legislative geographic that houses the phase of Kenya.

“We wish to state that CCU will not allow Machakos to be converted into a preserve of a competing party for whatever reason. Therefore, the Wiper party should desist from deploying under hand tactics to defeat democracy at a time when pluralism has fully percolated into the political ground,” part of the statement read.

According to the statement, the CCU party respects Wiper leader HE Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, but that respect is defined in national politics and not the Machakos governor.

“If Wiper want to zone Machakos, they should also withdraw their candidates from Nairobi, Mombasa and other big towns in Kenya. Wiper is clearly scared of the CCU leader Waita. But that is their problem, not the concern of the people of Machakos,” the statement reads further.

The Secretary General also noted that the outgoing Governor of Machakos is not a Wiper member thus indicating that Machakos residents have a democratic right to elect their preferred leaders and no one should impose a certain candidate to the people of Machakos.
