CHAN 2024: Tickets for Kenya vs DRC Opener Sold Out Six Days Ahead of Kickoff

Match tickets for Kenya’s highly anticipated opening fixture against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) have officially sold out, just six days before the game kicks off.

The Group A clash, set to take place this Sunday, August 3, at 3:00 PM at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, has drawn massive attention both locally and across the continent. Fans quickly snapped up tickets, highlighting the growing excitement surrounding the tournament and Kenya’s return to hosting top-tier continental football.

Ticket prices were set at Ksh 200 for regular admission, Ksh 500 for VIP access, and Ksh 1,000 for VVIP seats. The rapid sell-out follows a directive from the Local Organising Committee (LOC) chairperson Nicholas Musonye, who recently emphasized that no tickets will be sold at the venue on match days. This policy aims to enhance crowd control and strengthen overall matchday security protocols throughout the tournament.

“The decision was made to ensure smooth entry, avoid congestion, and ensure maximum safety for all attendees,” Musonye said in a previous briefing.

The Ministry of Sports, through Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, has also urged fans from across the continent to turn up in large numbers to support their teams, reiterating the government’s assurance of safety and security during the tournament.

“The government has put in place the necessary measures to ensure fans enjoy a safe and thrilling football experience,” CS Mvurya stated.

Echoing this sentiment, CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba encouraged Kenyans to embrace the “Pamoja” (Together) spirit and rally behind the national team. He noted that a successful showing by Kenyan fans would strengthen the country’s bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

All of Kenya’s Group A matches are scheduled to take place at the Kasarani Stadium, with Nyayo Stadium designated as an alternative venue if needed. The excitement is expected to continue building as Kenya prepares to face Angola in their second group-stage match. Tickets for that fixture will go on sale at midnight on July 29, 2025.

CHAN 2024 marks a crucial moment for Kenyan football as the nation showcases its hosting capabilities while the Harambee Stars aim to make a strong impression on home soil.
