Ababu Namwamba, the cabinet secretary for youth affairs, sports, and the arts, participated in a Christmas tree lighting and fundraising event for Kenyans suffering from the drought, organized by the Chandaria Foundation, whose patron is Manu Chandaria.
The Rotary Club of Nairobi was in charge of planning the event.
Namwamba commended Dr. Chandaria for his charitable work, saying that it has helped a lot of Kenyans in need.
The Rotary club and the foundation contributed 5.5 million shillings to help the country’s current drought issue.
CS Ababu Namwamba was admitted as an honorary member of the Rotarian Club of Nairobi.
“I’m most delighted to accept your admission as an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Nairobi, District 9212,” said Namwamba.
He added, “”I’m deeply honoured and humbled that I join this family on the occasion of celebrating the global international recognition of a man I hold in high esteem, Dr. Manu Chandaria.”
One of the oldest charities in Africa, the Chandaria Foundation was founded more than 50 years ago and is sponsored by the Chandaria Family.
Early childhood education, poverty alleviation, and children’s health are the three main areas of the Foundation’s activity.
To save overhead expenses and guarantee funding for its work, the Foundation does not maintain a regular staff but instead relies on a large number of volunteers and consults with corporate executives and other leaders within the Chandana family.
The Foundation sponsors 150 high school students each year through its scholarship program. Students are chosen from rural areas with significant levels of poverty or single-parent families.
The Chandaria family may leave a legacy of healthier, better-educated Kenyans thanks to the Foundation’s projects, as well as a new generation of corporate leaders who are driven and equipped to tackle societal concerns
