Charity Ngilu Intervenes As Contractor Clashes With Kitui Residents

In a very strong message delivered by her Kitui County Executive for Environment, Tourism and Natural Resources Hon Patrick Koki Musau accompanied by her counterpart for Gender, Sports and Culture Minister Hon Hellena Ken earlier today when they went to visit Mutha and Kanziku communities at Umbi hill.

The aggrieved residents had met to stop the contractor who had wrongly started bush clearing of South Kitui National Game Reserve cutline within communities land instead of the already earmarked buffer zone boundary.

The Governor ordered the contractor to stop the bush clearing activities with immediate effect and as well remove the bulldozer he is using from Umbi hill forthwith.

The Governor further told Mutha and Kanziku residents that she is soon going to convene a meeting with them at Mutha market for more deliberations on how the cutline will be done through bringing on all the stallholders on board comprising of the County Government of Kitui, the Kenya Wildlife Services and the area Communities so that they can sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) amongst themselves including incorporating the MoU between County Government of Kitui and some investors on how they should relate by their exercising Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) towards them (community).

On his part Kitui County Executive for Environment and Tourism thanked them for their cooperation and following the right channels to reach out to our able Governor who has fully addressed their grievances adding that Governor Ngilu is ready to walk with them on all their challenges.

He further told them to meet and start forming their community committees so that by the time Governor Ngilu calls for the stallholders meeting at Mutha market they may be ready to air their grievances correctly.

The two Kitui County Ministers established that the alleged contractor had started cutline bushing clearing activities 7.8Km away from the right place where the correct cutline (Buffer zone) between South Kitui National Game Reserve and the Mutha residents lies.
