Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu and former Senator David Musila have promised to put their differences aside to rally support for Raila Odinga, the presidential candidate of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party, ahead of the August elections.
Despite their truce, the two are set to face off at the polls, with Ngilu seeking to defend her seat, which Musila has targeted.
Ngilu will run for the position on a NARC ticket, while Musila will run on a Jubilee ticket; both parties are part of the larger Azimio coalition.
After an IEBC meeting with Kitui County aspirants on Thursday, Ngilu told journalists that getting Odinga into State House takes precedence over her and Musila’s personal ambitions.
“We are both Azimio candidates. The other parties are our competitors so we must continuously consult. We are not enemies at all, we want to make sure that we are going to win the national government,” said Ngilu.
