Chelsea have confirmed the signing of highly rated French defender Mamadou Sarr from Ligue 1 side Strasbourg on an eight-year contract, the Premier League club announced on Monday.
While the official transfer fee was not disclosed, British media reports suggest the deal is worth approximately €14 million ($16 million). Sarr, 19, made 28 appearances for Strasbourg after joining them from Olympique Lyonnais last August.
The centre back is the son of former Senegal international Pape Sarr and has featured for France at the Under-19 level, drawing attention for his composure, athleticism, and strong defensive instincts.
Chelsea and Strasbourg are both owned by the BlueCo consortium, led by Todd Boehly, which acquired the French club in 2023 as part of its multi-club ownership model. The strategic alignment between the two teams has enabled smoother player development and transfers.
Sarr’s arrival comes as Chelsea continue their focus on recruiting young, high-potential talent. His signing adds depth to the Blues’ defensive lineup ahead of a busy summer schedule, including their upcoming FIFA Club World Cup campaign, which kicks off against Mexico’s Club León on June 16.
