Chelsea forward Cole Palmer will miss at least three upcoming fixtures after fracturing a toe in an accident at home, head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed on Friday.
The 23-year-old, who had only just returned to training following a two-month layoff with a groin injury, reportedly broke his toe after stubbing it on a door at night.
Maresca said Palmer will be unavailable for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Burnley, Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Barcelona, and next weekend’s league match against leaders Arsenal.
“He is probably not available for tomorrow for sure, Barcelona for sure or Arsenal for sure,” Maresca said. “Unfortunately, he had an accident at home where he hit his toe. It’s nothing serious, but he won’t be back in the next week.”
Palmer, who scored twice in Chelsea’s Club World Cup final win over Paris Saint-Germain in July, is expected to play a key role for England at next year’s World Cup.
