Chelugui: 62 Kenyans Died In The Middle East

Chelugui was questioned by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments about his service to Kenyans in the labor ministry and the state of Kenyans in Gulf countries. Chelugui responded with the chilling revelation that at least 62 Kenyans have died while seeking greener pastures in the Gulf.

The CS on the hot seat claimed that the ministry followed up but received half-baked responses that did not make sense to the reasons for the deaths of Kenyans in foreign lands. “The explanations we received from Gulf countries for the deaths of our migrant workers were inadequate.” We cannot confirm these explanations and can only rely on the reports we have received.” stated Chelugui.

To some extent, the Cabinet nominee blamed some Kenyans who went to Saudi Arabia to look for work through unlicensed agencies disguised as tourists.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Principal Secretary, Macharia Kamau, several warnings against visiting the country have been issued, but the ladies do not listen.

“Please. We have repeatedly advised Kenyans to stop sending this type of worker to Saudi Arabia. You have decided not to listen “Kamau stated. Brighton Yegon, MP for Konoin Constituency, stated that once the 13th Parliament convenes, he will advocate for a ban on workforce export to Saudi Arabia.
