Cherera, Masit Opt Out Of Petition

Cherera and Masit informed Meru High Court that they were focused on a similar case filed in Nairobi.

Former IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera and commissioner Irene Masit have objected to their inclusion in a petition to halt the functioning of a tribunal constituted by President William Ruto.

Cherera and Masit informed Meru High Court Judge Edward Muriithi, through their attorneys Donald Kipkorir and Apollo Mboya, that they were focused on a similar case filed in Nairobi.

They requested that Judge Muriithi dismiss the case brought by three Meru County citizens, Kiogora Munjuri, Godfrey Kinoti, and Joshua Mwirigi.

In the petition, the trio, through their lawyer Kiogora Mugambi, have listed the National Assembly, the Justice Aggrey Muchelule tribunal and Attorney General Justin Muturi as respondents.

Cherera and Justus Nyang’aya, both of whom resigned from the panel, were cited as interested parties, as were suspended commissioners Irene Masit and Francis Wanderi.

The three petitioners are asking for an injunction to prevent the tribunal, chaired by Appellate Judge Aggrey Muchelule, from convening.

They want to consider whether there was merit in four petitions filed by the Republican Party, Dennis Nthumbi, Geoffrey Langat, and Owuor Steve Jerry, seeking the removal of the four IEBC commissioners.
