Chief Justice Martha Koome has announced intentions to implement electronic case filing in all of the country’s courthouses.
According to Koome, the gradual deployment slated to begin next month in Mombasa is the outcome of successful implementation in Nairobi.
“We have now begun the second phase of the progressive deployment of E-filing in all court stations across the country. This will commence in April with the debut of E-filling in Mombasa County “Koome said.
She made these remarks at the start of the 10th heads of stations meeting in Laikipia.
The forum brings together magistrates from 134 court stations and 14 Kadhis courts across the country.
CJ Koome commended the heads for their efforts in ensuring that all files are active.
She urged them to conduct annual case audits so that any file that is inactive is identified and reactivated to sustain expedited delivery of justice.
“I urged them to audit pending judgments or rulings to ensure timely delivery as well as identify bottlenecks and come up with homegrown solutions to these challenges,” a statement read in part.
Under the electronic system launched by former CJ David Maraga, all lawyers, police, DPP, and members of the public are required to register themselves through a portal to log into the Judiciary system.
