A tragic crush at a funfair in Ibadan, south-west Nigeria, has claimed the lives of several children, with many others hospitalized.

The exact number of casualties remains unclear.

The event, held at Islamic High School Basorun, was advertised as free entry, drawing an estimated 5,000 children.

Chaos erupted as attendees struggled to gain access, and the crush occurred when the main organizers arrived to commence the event.

Oyo State authorities confirmed “multiple loss of lives and injuries” and said victims have been rushed to hospitals across Ibadan for treatment.

Parents concerned about missing children have been urged to visit local hospitals for information.

Details of the sequence of events leading to the crush have yet to be disclosed, but the overwhelming turnout highlights the need for better crowd control measures at public gatherings.

The incident has left the city in mourning and sparked calls for accountability and improved safety standards to prevent similar tragedies.

Residents are demanding answers from organizers and local authorities about the lack of preparedness for such a massive crowd.

The Oyo State government is expected to launch an investigation as families grapple with the devastating loss of young lives.
