A devastating attack on Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital, the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, has killed two and injured dozens.

A Russian missile struck the hospital, which is well-known for cancer treatment and organ transplants, as part of a wave of attacks on Ukrainian cities.

According to Andriy Yermak, chief of staff for President Volodymyr Zelensky, 36 people were killed and 140 were injured during the strikes.

Lesia Lysytsia, the hospital’s director, described the missile’s impact as “like a film,” with a “big light, then an awful sound.”

The attack caused significant damage to the hospital, destroying approximately 60-70% of the facility. Patients were evacuated from the hospital, some still on intravenous drips.

Vitaliy Klitschko, Kyiv’s mayor, confirmed that the two people who died were adults, including one doctor. Rescue teams are feared that more people may be trapped under the rubble.

Russia has denied targeting the hospital, claiming that it was hit by fragments of a Ukrainian air defense missile. However, Ukrainian authorities have disputed this claim and blamed Russia for the attack.

The Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital is a vital institution in Ukraine, providing life-saving care to children from all over the country. The attack has sparked widespread outrage and grief among Ukrainians and international leaders alike.

As rescue efforts continue, hospital officials are working to evacuate patients and provide medical care to those affected by the devastating attack.
