The 2nd Africa International Agricultural Expo opened in Nairobi on 28 October with a strong sense of optimism about the continent’s farming future.
Backed by Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the event brought together over 200 policymakers, innovators, farmers and investors, alongside more than 160 exhibitors from Africa, Asia and beyond.
The focus was on growth and opportunity. China’s ambassador to Kenya, Guo Haiyan, hailed Africa’s “vast potential for agricultural development,” describing the sector as central to China-Africa cooperation.

She said China’s support for agricultural modernisation is already bearing fruit under the Agriculture and Livelihood Partnership Action launched at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
Guo also announced China’s intention to open its domestic market further to African farm products, using platforms such as the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo and expanding zero-tariff access for eligible goods.
The move is expected to strengthen trade links and give African producers a wider global reach.
More than 100 Chinese agribusinesses took part in the Nairobi expo, showcasing innovations in mechanisation, irrigation, and climate-smart farming.
The event created new opportunities for collaboration and investment aimed at boosting productivity and food security.
