Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Spain’s King Felipe VI in Beijing on Wednesday, marking the first state visit to China by a Spanish monarch in 18 years, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
The meeting underscores the two countries’ commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties as they celebrate two decades of high-level bilateral relations.
Discussions were expected to focus on expanding trade, promoting investment opportunities, and enhancing cooperation on global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development.
King Felipe’s visit reflects Madrid’s growing engagement with Beijing at a time when the European Union is seeking a more balanced approach toward China, emphasizing both partnership and competition.
