The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Guo Haiyan, on Wednesday met with top officials of Kenya’s ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in a high-level engagement aimed at deepening bilateral ties between China and Kenya.
The meeting, held at the UDA Headquarters in Nairobi, brought together Ambassador Guo, UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire, and Secretary-General Hassan Omar Hassan. Discussions centered on strengthening inter-party communication and cooperation between the UDA and the Communist Party of China (CPC), which both parties recognized as a vital pillar of the broader China-Kenya relationship.
“We expressed our commitment to actively implement the consensus reached by our leaders and to strengthen collaboration in sharing governance and party-building experiences between China and Kenya,” said Ambassador Guo after the talks.
In a statement, the UDA confirmed that the talks explored avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and shared development goals. The Chinese envoy also lauded key government initiatives such as Kenya’s Affordable Housing Project and the Taifa Care program, describing them as transformative and impactful in improving citizens’ welfare.
The meeting was a follow-up to Secretary-General Omar’s recent visit to China, during which foundational agreements were made to boost party-level collaboration. Both sides reaffirmed their intent to translate these agreements into tangible outcomes.
Also present at the meeting were UDA Executive Director Nicodemus Bore, Director of Programs Daniel Kiptoo, Director of Communication Rob Jillo, Director of Events Grace Murugi, Special Advisor to the Secretary-General Sebastian Mwangangi, as well as Chinese Embassy officials Counsellor Sun Yinan and First Secretary Li Dezheng.
The engagement underscores the growing emphasis on party-to-party diplomacy in fostering stronger Sino-Kenya ties.
