Chirchir Makes A Comeback In Government

Davis Chirchir, a former Chief of Staff at the office of Deputy President, has been appointed as the Secretary of Energy and Petroleum.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Chirchir as Energy and Petroleum CS for the first time in 2013.

He was suspended in 2015 after being accused of corruption.

Chirchir was appointed Chief of Staff at the President’s Executive Office in September 2022.

Chirchir was stated as the chief of staff in the president’s office in a confidential letter from the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua directing Cabinet secretaries and principal secretaries not to leave the country unless approved by the President.

He previously worked as Chief of Staff in the office of the Deputy President, which was previously held by William Ruto, who was elected President on August 9th.

The Public Service Commission appointed Chirchir to the position of DP on March 1, 2022, succeeding the late Ken Osinde.

Chirchir worked as the Director of Interim Independent Electoral Commission’s Information Technology (IIEC) in 2009.

He has a Master of Business Administration from Royal Holloway University in London, United Kingdom.

Chirchir also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nairobi in Computer Science and Physics.
