The Secretary-General of African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) churches in Kenya has been charged with forgery after he was arrested with Ksh.41.85 million in fake currencies.
Bernard Maina Mwangi from Kiambu was arraigned in Court today and charged with forging 100 USD amounting to 376,000US Dollars purporting to be bills of exchange.
Further, Maina Mwangi is accused of forging 1000 Kenya notes amounting to Ksh 96,000.
He was intercepted by DCI officers on 10th march 2022 along Kiambu road heading to Nairobi.
This followed intelligence signal that a suspect was carrying fake USD and heading to the City with an unknown motive.
The eagle-eyed detectives were dispatched to the said location and arrested him after some minutes of tracking.
He was apprehended and denied the charges before Magistrate Muthoni Kamau at Milimani Law courts.
Mr. Maina Mwangi was tasked by the court to secure his freedom by paying a bond of Ksh 200,000 or a cash bail of Ksh100,00.
The case will proceed on 30th March 2022.
