Ciru Muriuki Challenges Edwin Sifuna to Match Criticism of Government With Action

By Andrew Kariuki

Media personality Ciru Muriuki has publicly challenged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to move beyond criticising the government and instead push for concrete action if the opposition believes the administration is failing Kenyans.

The remarks came after Sifuna lamented what he described as the overwhelming pace at which the government was allegedly introducing policies and decisions that negatively affect citizens.

“The Ruto government is just too much. These guys wake up every single day just to conjure up more ways to cause pain to Kenyans. I know we are expected to keep government in check as opposition but it’s literally impossible to keep up with the breadth and depth of the capacity,” Sifuna said.

However, Ciru appeared unconvinced by the senator’s frustrations, arguing that opposition leaders cannot position themselves as powerless while holding constitutional offices with oversight responsibilities.

“And yet no one has tabled a motion of impeachment. You can’t be here talking as if you’re as helpless as we are. I’m sorry Edwin, but I’m not buying it,” Ciru responded.

Her comments have since sparked debate online, with some Kenyans agreeing that elected opposition leaders should pursue stronger institutional mechanisms to challenge government actions, while others defended Sifuna, arguing that political realities and parliamentary numbers make certain actions difficult to achieve.

The exchange adds to growing public debate over the role of opposition leaders in holding the government accountable amid mounting economic and political concerns raised by sections of Kenyans.
