City Mortuary To Be Renamed Nairobi Funeral Home – Sakaja

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has hinted that the City Mortuary will be renamed The Nairobi Funeral Home soon.

This he revealed on Saturday while inspecting the progress on the facility’s facelift, where he emphasised that better services and dignity must be restored.

“We must give our people dignity and we will,” he said on Twitter.

The facility, which is the largest government-owned mortuary in East and Central Africa, is undergoing renovations that will see new cooling units and cold rooms installed.

Corridors, reception areas, and viewing rooms will all be upgraded as part of the renovation.

The facility currently has six functional coolers with a capacity of 200 bodies, according to Public Health Chief Officer Tom Nyakaba.

“We have engaged a contractor to ensure all coolers are repaired and restored to excellent working condition so as to give proper and dignified services to Nairobians who have lost their loved ones,” said Nyakaba at a past media briefing.

There are also plans to build a private wing and a chapel at the government facility. For those who are unable to secure a church facility, the chapel will provide space for funeral services.
