A three day clan meeting by a Council of elders of Mumin Hassan of the larger Auliyahan community has endorsed Abdi Kheir Abdulahi Dubow for the Dadaab Parliamentary seat of Garissa County in the August 9 General elections.

These were the  resolutions emanating from the three-day consultative meeting held in Malindi. It was led by the council of elders at the African Dada resort.

The seat had attracted three candidates from the same community but the elders through the negotiated democracy settled for Dubow who is also a member of the ODM party.

The current MP Dr Mohamed Duale will not defend his seat and fully supports the candidate endorsed by the elders.

In the Community, negotiated democracy is applied to get the best suitable candidate within the community after which they reach out to other communities in the constituency for support.

It is when the elders together with youths, women, and men traveled all the way to Malindi from Dadaab and after a three-day tough debate declared Dubow as their preferred candidate.

Abdikhadir Shakul the vice-chairman council of elders officially handed Duale the certificate and declared him the community’s flagbearer in the parliamentary race for 2022.

Shakul said the elders have been on the negotiation table for three days to get the candidate and are happy to announce Duale.

“Those contesting were three but the elders have declared Abdikheir Abdulahi Dubow as the preferred candidate for Mumin Hassan and everyone has agreed,” he said.

The elder said even those who were contesting have also agreed with the resolution of the elders and pledged to support him.

In his acceptance speech Dubow appreciated the Mumin Hassan Community for their dedication and time spent for the last three days and endorsed him as their parliamentary candidate.

Abdi said the family that has picked the candidate has a lot of support from other families in Dadaab as they are known to be peace-loving.

He said their aim is to promote peace and cohesion since they border Somalia so as to ensure there is a good relationship with all their neighbors including those in Wajir south.

Mohamed Sheikh MCA for Abegele Ward who is also the Leader of Minority and ODM Chairman Garissa County said Dubo’s win was a victory for ODM and Raila Odinga.

He told their opponents within Azimio or outside to brace themselves for a mother of all battles in the polls.

“We will campaign for Abdi Kheir Dubow until he clinches the seat, I know Insha’Allah there are many aspirants who are contesting but let me assure you with all the support and numbers he is the next member of parliament.

Dubow will. Now face among others Former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Farah Maalim who contested for Garissa Township MP under Wiper Ticket in 2017 and lost to Former Majority Leader, Aden Duale of Jubilee.
