Man Wants Malala’s Out Of Kakamega Race Over ‘Fake’ Degree

A Kakamega voter has petitioned the court to have Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala barred from running for governor by the IEBC on the grounds that he lacks a degree certificate.

Petitioner Fred Muka through his Lawyer Duncan Okatch claims that Malala’s alleged USIU degree is not authentic so he does not qualify to vie for the Governor position.

The petitioner argues that Mr. Malala does not pass the constitutional test which require him to have a minimum degree certificate from a recognized institution to vie for the position.

Further, the petitioner submits that Mr. Malala’s degree certificate circulating on social media is fake and that he scored Supplementary in most of his units hence it would be impossible for him to end up scoring a distinction as he alleges.

The petition has been certified urgent hence directions of the matter to be issued by the presiding court in the course of the day.

Malala, who is running for governor of Kakamega on an ANC ticket in the August 9 election, has been accused of forging his academic certificates.

To be eligible for the position of county governor in Kenya, one must, among other things, hold a degree from a Kenyan university.
