AFC Leopards captain and veteran midfielder Clifton Miheso has officially announced his departure from the club following the expiry of his contract, bringing to a close a storied chapter in one of Kenya’s most accomplished football careers.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Miheso thanked fans, teammates, and former coach Thomas Trucha for their unwavering support during his time with the club.
“As my time as captain of this incredible team comes to an end, I want to express my deepest gratitude, you are the soul of this team,” he wrote.
Miheso, who has rejoined Ingwe on multiple occasions over the past decade, leaves behind a legacy defined by leadership, resilience, and creativity. His illustrious career has seen him play for top clubs in Finland, South Africa, Zambia, and Kenya, including stints at VPS, Golden Arrows, Buildcon, Gor Mahia, and Kenya Police FC.
His exit marks the beginning of a sweeping squad overhaul at AFC Leopards, with winger Elly Wafula, striker Sydney Lokale, goalkeeper Abubakar Musha, and seasoned midfielder Kevin Kimani also parting ways with the club. Musha, from Kilifi, never made a competitive debut after joining in 2022, while Kimani departs after a lengthy domestic career with Mathare United, Tusker, Sofapaka, and Wazito.
The departures come in the wake of a disappointing 2024/25 FKF Premier League season, where the Leopards finished sixth with 51 points. Newly elected club chairman Boniface Ambani has pledged to reshape the team, prioritizing contract reviews and a long-term development strategy to restore the club’s competitive edge.
With Miheso’s farewell symbolizing the end of an era, AFC Leopards now face a pivotal transition, balancing the loss of veteran experience with the promise of a new generation.
