The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has announced plans to hold a major demonstration in Nairobi as part of its ongoing push for improved welfare among clinicians.
Dubbed “Mega Demo – Chapter III: Rise for Healthcare,” the demonstration is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, 2026, with participants expected to assemble at Greenpark Terminus at 9:00 a.m.
The protest will involve a march through key government offices, including Delta House, City Hall, and finally Afya House, where they will present their petition to the relevant authorities within the Ministry of Health (MOH).
According to KUCO, the demonstration seeks to draw attention to long-standing issues affecting clinical officers and other healthcare workers across the country.
Among the key demands outlined are the signing of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), implementation of Return-to-Work Formulas (RTWFs), and the absorption of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff into permanent and pensionable terms.

The union is also calling for the payment and absorption of workers currently funded under the Global Fund, many of whom have faced job insecurity and delayed remuneration despite playing a critical role in service delivery.
KUCO leaders say the demonstration is part of a broader campaign to safeguard the healthcare system and ensure fair treatment of clinicians, whom they describe as the backbone of public health services.
KUCO has urged its members, whom they referred to as the “green army”, to turn out in large numbers.
The demonstration comes amid growing pressure on national and county governments to address staffing shortages, delayed salaries, and poor working conditions in the health sector.
KUCO has emphasised that the protest will be peaceful and has encouraged participants to remain disciplined as they raise their voices on issues they say can no longer be ignored.
The clinical officers’ strike began on December 22, 2025, after a 21-day ultimatum that they had issued to the MOH to address their issues elapsed.
“All clinical officers working under the Ministry of Health and county governments, and including specialists & clinical interns, should be on strike from midnight of Monday 22nd December 2025,” read the KUCO statement.
