Bishops to Uhuru: Closing Churches is worse than COVID-19

Bishop David Kamau

Catholic Bishops have urged the government to keep church doors open, arguing that their closure is a bigger threat to the world than the COVID-19 pandemic By Henry Kimoli.

Bishop David Kamau, the auxiliary clergy at the Archdiocese of Nairobi said the closure of places of worship will lead to the breakdown of societal values and breed ills that threaten human existence.

“People are genuinely afraid of COVID-19. Without God in our lives, we are worse off. Places of worship must be reopened fully”, he said.

Kamau said the challenges facing mankind today are more pronounced than the current pandemic and reiterated there is a need for a delicate balance.

“Catholic bishops will follow all the laid down Health protocols, but the ultimate protocol is to ensure the communion with God in our lives”, he said.

He urged Christians to renew their faith with God, and COVID-19 will disappear.

Kamau said pandemics have affected the world before, adding that it was only through a firm belief in Christ that solutions have been found.

“We must turn to God for salvation. There are no two ways”, he said.
