Coast Gets New Regional Commander As Police Reshuffle Top Ranks

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced significant changes to its leadership structure, with new appointments and promotions aimed at strengthening crime-fighting efforts across the country.

In the reshuffle revealed on April 16, DCI boss Mohamed Amin named former deputy head of the Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit (ECCU), Daniel Kandie, as the new Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO) for the Coast. Kandie takes over from Adan Guyo, who has been promoted and reassigned to DCI headquarters as the new director of the inspection unit.

In a parallel move, George Mutonya, previously serving in West Pokot, was appointed the RCIO for Nyanza. He replaces George Kisaka, who also moved to DCI headquarters after being promoted to deputy head of the investigations bureau.

Other key changes include the appointment of former North Eastern RCIO Samson Kiptum as the new Director of Operations at DCI headquarters, succeeding Richard Mwaura, who now joins the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons.

These changes come in the wake of a series of promotions by the National Police Service Commission. Among the notable promotions are Dr. Mwangi Wanderi, now Director of Human Capital Development; Mathew Kutoh, Principal Assistant to the IG; and Adamson Bungei, now Director of Operations at Vigilance House.

Additionally, 51 officers of the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP) were promoted to Assistant Inspector General (AIG), including Coast Region police commander Ali Nuno, KAPU Commandant Benard Korir, and Dr. Philip Ouma of DCI Reforms, among others.

The newly appointed officers have already reported to their stations and are expected to enhance the DCI’s mandate in tackling complex crimes and improving security coordination nationwide.
