Coast Regional Commissioner John Elung’ata has ordered the immediate reopening of all schools in Lamu west, Lamu County.

The security interruption came after an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Lamu West sub County earlier this month, which resulted in the deaths of seven people.

Following the attack, there was tension in the villages of Juhudi, Witho, Mashagoni Kamukunji in Majembeni, and Bobo in Hindi.

Many people were forced to flee their houses and seek refuge in adjacent schools.

Elungata maintained that sufficient military and police forces have been dispatched to deal with the assailants responsible for the insecurity in the area.

He urged locals to return to their houses, saying there was no need to be concerned because security flaws had been detected and repaired.

Residents were told by the Regional Commissioner that security officers will deal sternly with any offenders responsible for insecurity incidents around the county.
