The Sh59 billion project, which was started late last year, could revolutionalise transport in Nairobi and ease traffic jams on Mombasa Road.

The four-lane dual carriageway is expected to ease traffic flow on the Mlolongo-James Gichuru A8 section and eventually reduce travel time through Nairobi.

In total the state of art facility will have 10 interchanges; Mlolongo, SGR terminus, JKIA, Eastern bypass, Southern bypass, Capital Center, Haile Selassie, Thika road, Westlands and James Gichuru.

Currently, contractor China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) is erecting piers at Bellevue. Here the expressway is expected to over a footbridge. The piers will be 8meters high.

Sub-contracted contractors are also on the haste to relocate water pipes for a smooth implementation of the project.

The Nairobi Expressway project is expected to be a key source of employment both during and after construction.

“About 3,000 jobs will be created during the construction, and after construction, 500 jobs will be available.” KENHA Director General Eng. Mundinia said

Eng. Mundinia also added that the project is in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s big four agenda, aimed at improving the lives of Kenyans.

“This project will support the realization of the Government’s “Big 4 Agenda” & “Vision 2030″, enhance the economic vitality of Nairobi and consolidate Kenya’s leading position as an investment destination in East Africa.” He said.
