The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has commenced the search for a new director general to replace Ezra Chiloba who tendered his resignation this month.
Chiloba who was appointed in October 2021 was suspended on September 18, 2023, two years into his term over graft allegations and conflict of interest, and Christopher Wambua who is the corporate communications director at CA appointed in an acting capacity.
The embattled former director general who previously served as Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chief executive tendered his resignation on October 18, 2023.
The new director general is expected to provide the authority with leadership, expertise, and strategic direction needed to effectively regulate, promote, and lead the technology, communications, and broadcasting sector in Kenya.
“The Director General is responsible for providing strategic and visionary leadership and has full operational responsibility in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic business plans of the Authority. The DG will play a crucial role in the management and oversight of the institution, ensuring that CA fulfills its mandate of regulating and promoting the ICT sector in Kenya,” CA said in an advert on its website.
The new DG is also expected to ensure effective regulation and promotion of the ICT sector in the country besides developing, implementing, and enforcing regulatory policies and standards while ensuring that regulatory decisions are fair, impartial, and in the public interest.
Interested candidates are required to possess a bachelor’s degree in ether telecommunications, information technology applied and physical sciences, humanities and social sciences, business-related fields, or equivalent qualification.
The candidate must also have ten years of relevant work experience with at least five years in senior management and a strong track record in regulatory, telecommunications, ICT or broadcasting sectors.
Interested candidates are expected to submit their application before the close of business on November 17, 2023.
