Competence Based Curriculum grade 4 roll out ready

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced that the Competence Based Curriculum grade 4 roll out will take place early next year 2020 January.

The CS said that the ministry has already distributed books to 97% of the counties citing that the remaining 3% will receive the books by next week.

Magoha said this while releasing the 2019 KCSE results at the Kenya National Examinations Council’s offices in Nairobi.

Already 106,320 teachers are undergoing training with 18,000 of them from private schools.

However, Magoha cited that there are going to be challenges in rolling out the new curriculum but with team effort.

“Help us because it is not going to be easy… where we have issues let’s work together so that the roll out can be a success,” Magoha appealed to all stakeholders.

Magoha also admitted that there are issues with NEMIS but the ministry is working on it to ensure its efficiency.

The CS further issued a directive that all girls who got pregnant and were not able to sit for the exams should be taken back to school adding that the Ministry will work together with the interior CS Fred Matiang’i to ensure this is achieved.

He also urged students who have not scored the university entry grades to change their mindsets and Technical and Vocational Education and Training(TVET) institutions.

“It is honorable to join TVET and provide services to the people,” he said.

This year the KCSE performance improved tremendously as compared to the past years especially after the reforms in the sector to curb exam malpractices.

The number of students who scored grade A were 627 students as compared 315 last year. 5,796 students scored grade A- an increase from 3,719 last year. This year 7,646 students scored C+.
