The online presence of Kenyan social media influencer Scophine Aoko Otieno, widely known as Maverick Aoko, has been the subject of intense scrutiny following the deactivation of her X (formerly Twitter) account.
This development has reignited concerns about her well-being, just days after her reappearance following a mysterious ten-day absence.
Aoko last posted on October 22, before disappearing and subsequently being discovered near the Kenya-Tanzania border on November 1. Despite her return to social media on November 8, she has yet to share any images or videos, leaving her followers anxious and speculating about her state.
The deactivation of her X account, initially reported by several users, has generated a flurry of reactions online. One user, Val, noted that Aoko had indeed deactivated her account, while Dr. John Njenga Karugia PhD pointedly suggested that the real Aoko may not be the one operating the account before its closure.
“I’m trying to understand what’s going on. Aoko’s account has been deactivated,” expressed one concerned user, ‘I am Chege.’ However, Chege later claimed to have confirmed her safety through a close political ally.
Underneath the outcry for Aoko’s social media activity, there’s a clear divide of opinion. While some assert that Aoko remains missing and that her actual presence is in question, others are calling for urgent proof of her safety.
Amid the concern, there are also accusations of “clout chasing.”
