Convicted ‘Serial Killer’ Onyancha Set Free After Police Blunder

The High court has set free suspected serial killer Phillip Onyacha over the killing of Chepnegetich Misoi in 2008. – By Meshack Makau.

While acquitting Onyancha, trial judge Jesse Lesit ruled that the police did not conduct adequate investigations.

“All these are disheartening omissions the ones being failure to investigate a stain on the deceased door captured by the crime scene investigator, why would the police not follow this line of investigation? ” the judge posed.

Onyancha, who still has cases pending in court, was charged in 2008 with the murders of two women, Catherine Chelangat and Jackline Chepngetich Misoi.

He is accused of murdering Chelangat on November 22, 2008, at Karen, and Misoi on May 30, 2008, at the Mount Kenya building on Nairobi’s Kombo-Munyiri Road.

He had previously confessed to killing 19 women and children, but later denied three murder charges brought against him by the DPP’s office

While giving his defence-sworn evidence, Onyancha told the trial judge that the woman he is accused of killing committed suicide in her house at Mount Kenya Building in Nairobi.

He further added that he was not involved in any manner to the murder of Chepng’etich on the night of May 29 and 30, 2008 as alleged by the police.
