Cooking Gas Prices Rise By Ksh 500

The Russian-Ukraine situation, along with the implementation of a Value Added Tax (VAT) on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), has pushed prices in Kenya to an all-time high.

Rubis Energy Kenya revised its retail tariffs on Friday, raising the refilling price of a 13 kilogramme cylinder by over Sh250.

According to the company, the dealer’s pricing for the 13-kiogramme cylinder was Sh2,684 before VAT, bringing the total to Sh3,113. Consumers, on the other hand, would be able to refill the cylinder for Sh3,340 beginning today.

The six-kilogram cylinder will be refilled for Sh1,560 instead of Sh1,441. Prior to the implementation of VAT, families could refill the same for Sh1,243.

Those who use the 35 kilogramme cylinder would now have to spend Sh8,760 to refill, up from Sh8,191, an almost Sh600 increase.
