The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) has congratulated President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua on their inauguration on Tuesday.
In a statement on Wednesday, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli said they support President Ruto’s message of unity and reconciliation urging Kenyans to now unite and support the new Government regardless of their previous political affiliations.
“In his inaugural speech, President Ruto was full of reconciliation and hope and as COTU we associate ourselves with his resolution and assurance of working with all Kenyans from the political divide in building a united and prosperous Kenya,” he said.
As the campaign period came to an end, he stated that it was time to get back to work.
“At such times it is wise to remember that Kenya is bigger than all of us, especially those who were involved in the political campaigns and bickering,” he said.
According to Atwoli, when Kenyans fail to move in one direction, workers, women, and children suffer.
He added that Kenyans should take Ruto’s inauguration speech seriously because it provided hope.
“It has been our tradition to work with the government of the day which provides an environment where workers, through COTU employers through (FKE) and the government through the ministry of Labour, work in tripartite structure,” he said.
According to Atwoli, COTU remains ready to work with the administration of Ruto to promote unity, the rights and welfare of Kenyan workers.
