The Nairobi Commercial Court has granted an injunction preventing the newly elected leaders of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry from taking office.
Dr. Eric Rutto (President) and Mustapha Ramadhan (Vice President) have been prevented from taking office awaiting the outcome of a lawsuit against them.
In the case, Hassan Wario filed a lawsuit against the chamber’s head of the Independent Electoral Board, stating that the elections were tainted by irregularities.
“A temporary injunction prohibiting the third defendant from engaging in any activities related to the filed returns is issued.” “The injunction expressly prohibits the third defendant, as well as their agents, employees, servants, or any other individuals acting on their behalf, from dealing with, filing, registering, presenting for registration, or applying for registration based on the first defendant’s returns,” the court order stated.
The court’s judgment temporarily halts their ascension to leadership awaiting further instructions.
The court also ordered that the application be served on the parties, who have 14 days to respond. The court will give directions on July 3.
