The High Court has extended an order banning President William Ruto’s task force from auditing the public debt.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi further allowed the petitioners in the case to serve the respondents, along with the four taskforce members, through a national circulation newspaper.
In this case, doctors Benjamin Magare Gikenyi and Eliud Matindi sued to dispute the taskforce’s appointment, claiming that the president surpassed his constitutional authority.
President William Ruto on July 5, 2024, formed an independent taskforce to carry out a comprehensive audit of the country’s public debt.
He noted that the taskforce will be required to provide a detailed report within the next three months.
Ruto further explained that the report would be critical in providing transparent information to the public and assess how public resources have been spent over time.
