Court Gives DPP 30 days to supply evidence against Bomet Governor Barchok in graft case

Written by Joyce Nzomo

In the anti-corruption case against Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, the court has ordered the prosecution to provide documentary evidence to the defense within 30 days.

The request was made during proceedings before Trial Magistrate Celesa Okore, with the prosecution explaining that the documents are extensive and require additional time to compile.

Defense lawyers, Edward Oonge and Isa Masur, had pushed for the evidence to be supplied in hard copies, arguing that reviewing physical documents is crucial for proper preparation.

However, the court allowed the prosecution’s application, giving them the 30-day window to submit all exhibits.

The case will be revisited virtually on October 28, 2025, to ensure the prosecution has complied with the court’s order.

Governor Barchok is facing allegations that include conflict of interest and misuse of proceeds amounting to Sh2.7 million.

He remains free on a Sh5 million cash bail while the trial continues.
