Court Halts Vetting Of Nominated CECs In Kisumu County

Following a case filed by an activist, the Labour and Relations High Court in Kisumu has now halted the vetting of Kisumu county government CEC nominees.

Lady Justice Christine Baari has ordered a halt to the proceedings until the matter before the court is heard and decided.

Evans Otieno Oloo Gor, the petitioner, had asked the court to revoke the list, accusing Governor Anyang Nyongo of violating the constitution and the county government act, especially given that only one woman was nominated out of a list of seven.

Clifford Obiero, the activist’s lawyer, says the matter will come up on November 1st for further directions.

Obiero says his client needs the court to annul the whole process arguing that requirements such as gender balance, regional balance and inclusion of PLWDs were not considered.

Oloo Gor on his part has expressed optimism that the court will deliver justice and that Governor Nyongo administration must follow the law while making such public appointments.

The court directed that the matter be heard on November 1st.

In the petition, Governor Anyang Nyongo, Kisumu County assembly and Kisumu county government have been named as respondents.
