Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Briton in Agnes Wanjiru Murder Case

The quest for justice in the 2012 murder of Agnes Wanjiru has taken a major step forward after the High Court granted a warrant of arrest against a British national linked to the crime.

On Tuesday, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) informed the court that evidence gathered directly connects the suspect, a United Kingdom citizen, to the killing of the 21-year-old mother in Nanyuki. The DPP subsequently sought an arrest warrant to initiate extradition proceedings.

Justice Alexander Muteti allowed the application, ruling that murder is an extraditable offence under Kenyan law and that sufficient grounds exist to bring murder charges against the accused.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), represented by Acting Deputy Director Vincent Monda, OGW, and Head of the Homicide Division Gikui Gichuhi, confirmed that formal extradition proceedings will now commence to secure the suspect’s transfer to Kenya for trial.

Wanjiru, a young mother and freelance hairdresser, went missing on March 31, 2012, after being last seen at the Lions Court Lodge in Nanyuki. Her body was discovered on June 5, 2012, inside a septic tank at the lodge, sparking national outrage and long-running calls for accountability.

The case has since attracted international attention, with human rights groups and local leaders demanding justice amid claims of a cover-up.

The matter is scheduled to return to court on October 21, 2025, for further directions as the extradition process begins.
