Court of Appeal Greenlights EACC Access To Evans Kidero’s Bank Accounts

In a decisive ruling, the Court of Appeal has authorized the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the bank accounts of former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

The decision, delivered on September 20, 2024, dismissed a petition filed by Kidero seeking to prevent the investigation by asserting that it infringed upon his legal rights.

The EACC stated that the investigation aims to uncover the source of Kidero’s wealth amid allegations of corruption and economic crimes linked to his tenure as both governor and as the Managing Director of Mumias Sugar Company.

The Commission has been pursuing access to Kidero’s bank accounts since 2016, following orders from the Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Kidero’s legal team argued that the EACC’s actions violated his rights, yet the Appellate Court upheld the Commission’s mandate to examine financial transactions in light of the serious allegations against him.

The EACC’s investigation is expected to shed light on the unexplained wealth reportedly acquired during Kidero’s public service. Further updates will follow as the investigation unfolds.
