A Nairobi court has ordered the preparation of a pre-bail report in a case where a woman is charged with causing grievous harm to a seven year old child.

Mary Njeri Makumi was arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, where she pleaded not guilty to the charge of grievous harm contrary to Section 234 of the Penal Code.

According to the charge sheet, the offence is alleged to have occurred on January 1, 2026, at around 2:45pm in Upper Hill, Nairobi County, where the accused is said to have unlawfully caused grievous harm to the minor.

Makumi was arrested on the same day and later presented in court on January 8, 2026. She remains in custody.

Upon hearing submissions, the court directed that a pre-bail report be prepared to guide its decision on whether to grant bail.

The prosecution listed several witnesses in the case, including the minor, family members, medical personnel and police officers.

The case will proceed once the pre-bail assessment is filed and considered by the court.

The matter is scheduled for mention on January 26, 2026, for further directions.
